2019 Miss Teen Rodeo Washington - Elyse Duarte
Elyse Duarte is the 18-year-old-daughter of Jonathan and Isela Duarte of Kennewick, Washington. A 2018 Richland High School graduate, Elyse is continuing her education at Columbia Basin College, focusing on a career in communications.
Elyse grew up on the back of a horse, and has never gotten off. From showing in 4-H, to competing in junior rodeos and as a member of the Columbia Burbank Washington State High School Equestrian Team, there has never been a time in her life that she was not training horses or competing in different disciplines. Over the years, she has been blessed to ride several talented horses, but her favorite is her nine year old AQHA gelding, MDM Snowbar or, as Elyse lovingly refers to him as, Pretzel. A ranch-raised horse from Oreana Idaho, Pretzel is now on his way to becoming quite the all-around horse!
One thing you may notice is Elyse’s love for sunflowers, a brand she has incorporated into her everyday life. Elyse exclaims, “as a representative, a bystander, or just simply a human being, we have the ability to spread kindness and positivity everywhere we may travel in this life. A sunflower symbolizes the qualities we should portray, strong roots, face towards the sun, continued growth and, most importantly, a bright happy attitude. It is important to remember we have the power to impact the lives around us in a positive way.”
Elyse is a true example of “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Which is a testament to one of her main goals this year, to connect with and educate future rodeo fans and athletes, starting at a young age. She is proud to represent Washington State as 2019 Miss Teen Rodeo Washington, not only as a role model, but to inspire those around her to be the best version of themselves they can be.
